Lessons from past
• VERBAL and written anti-Zionist diatribes are two-a-penny nowadays, so one more book of that kind will hardly make much difference (Long over ‘dew’ look at this fear and self-loathing, August 21)
Never mind the subject of Jewish self-hatred, the important question is whether these anti-Zionist outpourings are anti-semitic or not. If they are produced to undermine, dismember and destroy the Jewish state – which most of them are – they are undoubtedly anti-semitic.
There is absolutely no difference between past efforts to destroy the Jewish people and current efforts to destroy the Jewish state. It is irrelevant as to who is making these statements, non-Jew or Jew. It is the intention that is important.
Until the Muslim world, parts of the Christian world and even odd sections of the Jewish world come to accept the minuscule Jewish state in their midst, Israel, like any other country under similar circumstances – if there are any – will have to take good care of itself.
Mike Marqusee might have done better to study the history of the Jews over the last 2,000 years before exposing his ignorance and feelings so clearly.
