Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 5 September 2008

• CONCERNED about the amount levied for water rates, I challenged the Partners for Islington fee of £5.72 a week. After consulting the Thames Water website I estimated the weekly bill for a one-person, one-bedroom property fitted with a water meter was £3.67 (36 per cent less).
Thames was unable to fit a water meter at my property but is now charging me the lower fees based on an estimate as if one had been installed. So, after five months in dispute, I’m being charged the lower £3.83 weekly rate.
One reason I suspect I was paying the higher charge is that Islington earns £1.3million from Thames Water for collecting water fees.
I have requested that Partners for Islington informs all council tenants, through the internal newsletter, about this issue. I have also referred this matter to regulatory body Ofwat, and await its response.
