Blaze girl a ‘real hero’

A YOUNG girl has been praised for her quick thinking after a fire broke out in her fourth-floor home.
When the blaze broke out in her Clue Court home in St Peter’s Street in the middle of Monday night, the girl alerted her family.
The blaze damaged half the kitchen and there was heavy smoke throughout the building but no one was hurt.
Islington crew manager Emma Beattie said: “Firefighters had recently visited the property and taught the family about what to do in case of a fire and we also fitted a smoke alarm. The young girl really took all this on board, by hearing the alarm, wrapping herself and her brother in a blanket and then waking up her mum and dad. She is a real hero and we will be looking into awarding her for her bravery.”
Two adults, two children and an infant left the building before crews from Islington and Clerkenwell fire station arrived.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
