Award judges salute six of the best

A FAMILY-run fish-and-chip restaurant which has been serving customers for 40 years and an East European travel service are among the six winners of an Islington business awards scheme.
The two Holloway businesses, Sea Chef in Tollington Way and Alban Travel in Seven Sisters Road, were praised for “outstanding” customer service.
The other winners were Balls Pond Road Garage in Highbury, Abbey Vets in Angel, Proietti Garage in Holloway, and Elite Cattery in Highgate.
More than 50 businesses, mainly in the catering, motoring and veterinary sectors, were nominated for Swift awards.
Criteria included how each business sets prices, resolves complaints, retains loyal customers and exceeds expectations.
Nominated businesses were assessed by an independent panel of judges and a team of mystery shoppers.
Family-run fish and chip restaurant and takeaway Sea Chef demonstrated a quick and efficient service, while still cooking all food freshly to maintain high standards.
Friendly and helpful staff impressed judges by frequently exceeding customers’ expectations and providing them with tasty food.
The judges were also impressed with specialist Eastern European travel agent Alban Travel, praising its expert knowledge and desire to ensure customers got the very best out of their trip.
Its commitment to providing excellent customer service has recently seen the company expanding its office space and bringing in more staff.
Balls Pond Garage demonstrated a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service. On one occasion, mechanics pulled out all the stops to help a pregnant woman whose car had broken down.
Manager Muzamil Yusaf said: “We treat customers as we would like to be treated. As a family business, we are delighted to win this award.”
Tina Shortle, marketing director of online insurance company swiftcover.com, which sponsors the awards, said: “We wanted to find those businesses and their owners who are quietly ‘getting on with the job’ of providing great customer service, but would not ordinarily be recognised for their business success.
“Our judges were inspired by the dedication and enthusiasm of all of our winners, who frequently exceed the call of duty.”
