Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 August 2008

Sobell: It’s a land grab

• WHY is the Lib Dem council once again refusing to consult people properly on a major redevelopment (Architect: Homes would crowd out sports centre, July 18)?
It was Labour councillors who held a meeting to consult residents and users on the future of the Sobell Centre, when the Lib Dem council should have done this. As Sobell Centre users representative Barry Hill has pointed out, of the 800 residents and users he consulted the overwhelming majority support refurbishment of the Sobell sports centre, not demolition.
This is yet another land grab by the Lib Dem council to build luxury housing for people who they think will then most probably vote for them.
Remember, the original planning permission given to Arsenal stipulated a new sports centre, which has now been dropped. Do they have a similar plan for the Sobell?
