Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 25 July 2008

Post Office misses out

• AT a time when the Post Office is closing branches, increasing the cost of posting a letter and complaining about competition, it seems extraordinary that it does not maximise the use of its existing assets to increase income and provide capital.
Look at the Upper Street post office. The top three floors appear to be empty or semi-abandoned, and are becoming an eyesore. Or look at the huge empty site adjacent to Mount Pleasant Sorting Office, which is used as a scruffy temporary car park. This site has been empty and largely forgotten for a generation and yet must be worth a fortune. Why doesn’t the Post Office use its assets more effectively in the service of the community?
