Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 18 July 2008

First it’s fishing-rod burglars, now fiddlers on roof

WE suffered from the attention of “fishing-rod” burglars before we learned about them. Now we are victims of the first part of another scam.
Builders or roofers looking for a job and able, by means of scaffolding already in place, to get onto the roof of a terraced house will walk up and down several roofs on either side smashing enough tiles on each to cause leaks.
A week or so later, after rain, they put leaflets into the letter-boxes of these houses offering to carry out repairs.
Their charges (for repairing the damage they have themselves caused) are often excessive.
