Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 11 July 2008

Take stand on knives

• BEN Kinsella’s death, at the age of 16, is a tragedy. My heart goes out to his family and many friends.
Islington has lost another dearly-loved boy, following the killing of Martin Dinnegan and Nass Osawe last year.
The amazing reaction to Ben’s death shows how well-known and well-loved he and his family are in our community.
If the Kinsella family’s star quality leads people to lay down knives, then some good may yet come from this horror.
Liberal Democrats have long called on the government to send out a clear message and raise the sentence for carrying a knife.
That action is now long overdue. In the face of such terrible crimes, we can feel powerless to act.
But people out there know who is selling the knives, who is carrying them and who is using them.
It’s time to take a stand. Make the call, tell the police or Crimestoppers what you know, and help end knife crime on our streets.
