Harlequin sandwich man uses his loaf!

ARE these freshly-cut sandwiches the cheapest in the borough? They are according to Phil Nicholas, 35, landlord of the Harlequin pub by Sadler’s Wells.
In order to drum up business in these austere times, from this week onwards Mr Nicholas ) and his wife, Penny, will only charge £1 for a sandwich.
Mr Nicholas, who also works as a music tour manager, said: “The pub is in a quiet backstreet and people are trying to save money these days, so we thought this would be a good idea to bring in a few new customers.”
Judging by the tables of punters tucking into their thick-crusted white loafs, the scheme was clearly working. Karen Hedger, 49, celebrating with her colleagues, said: “I think it’s a very good idea. It’s a great price.”
Jackie DiStefano, 45, lunching with her friend, said: “We were just walking past the pub and saw the special offer. We’re a bit broke at the moment so we thought ‘Let’s go and have a butty!’ It was a very nice sandwich – we’ll definitely come here again.”
Customers can choose from chicken breast and salad, honey roast mustard ham, and cheese & pickle.
