Peter Wallace gets in some food fight practice with Kirsty Lawlor, despite his 30th birthday idea being rejected by the Town Hall on health and safety grounds
Splat’s not going to happen! Charity food fight is banned from park

FUN-BUSTERS in the Town Hall have blocked a charity food-fight on health and safety grounds.
The 60-strong culinary battle was scheduled to take place in Rosemary Gardens park in Southgate Road. Peter Wallace, who lives in Essex Road and came up with the idea to mark his 30th birthday, is hoping to find another venue before his big day on August 16.
He said: “There will be custard pies, tomatoes, baked beans and spaghetti – anything mushy basically. We’ll have two teams and after 10 minutes whoever’s cleanest are champions.”
Lib Dem councillor Ruth Polling, lead member for leisure, said: “I think it’s great that Mr Wallace wanted to use his birthday to raise money for charity, but we have to consider the impact on local residents and other users of the park.
“I think a huge food fight would have put off a lot of regular and potential users of Rosemary Gardens.”
Mr Wallace said the event would raise more than £500 for the charity of the owner’s choice.
He said: “I can understand where they are coming from. But we promised to clear up the mess – we will be very responsible.”
“We’re after anywhere outside really. We’ll roll out a massive carpet and will clean everything up. If there’s a landlord offering, we’d be happy to put some money behind the bar too.”
If you can help Mr Wallace find a venue, email him at pies4peter@hotmail.com
