Rockin’ school opening as pupils join mainstream

BALLOONS were released to mark the official opening on Friday of a special needs school whose pupils now share a site with mainstream students.
Bridge School’s primary pupils are based at Hungerford Primary School, in Hungerford Road, Holloway, with the secondary students at nearby Holloway School, in Hilldrop Road. At Friday’s opening of both new buildings, the audience enjoyed a performance by experimental rock band The Skirts. Islington Labour MPs Jeremy Corbyn and Emily Thornberry were among those present.
The £25million project involved the construction of a six-lane swimming pool, an all-weather sports pitch, a Sure Start centre and teachers’ training centre.
Lib Dem Mayor of Islington Councillor Stefan Kasprzyk praised the integration of mainstream and special needs students. He said: “Children bring people together. It’s us adults that separate people. They have a place they can call home and we are the first borough to take this policy forward.”.
