Advice bureau to open two offices|

A NEW Citizens Advice Bureau is to open in Islington later this year as part of a £1.35 million Town Hall project.
There are plans for the new CAB to have two offices, according to Lib Dem deputy council leader Councillor Terry Stacy, who announced the opening this week.
The previous CAB in Finsbury Park closed early last year following financial difficulties. This meant extra work for the other two advice centres in the borough, Islington People’s Rights in Holloway and Islington Law Centre, also in Holloway.
Cllr Stacy maintained that money which would have funded the old CAB was ploughed back into the two existing advice centres to “beef up their projects”.
He is to confirm a new advice centre contract over three years at next week’s council executive committee meeting. He added: “We’re in discussion with the national CAB. Senior officials are looking at possibly two new premises across the borough.”
Labour councillor Richard Watts said people were having to wait as long as three or four weeks for advice. He added: “It’s no reflection on the two organisations we have currently, who do an excellent job. But we need a new CAB office urgently. I’ve had an increase in case work which I have needed to pass on to the law centre.
“Solicitors can charge a lot for their services and I advise anyone with a problem to go to the law centre or People’s Rights, where services are free.”
