GCSE students get good luck in the mail

COUNCIL leader James Kempton has caused a pre-exam stink after sending out good luck cards to every GCSE pupil in the borough.
The 1,500 cards, which were sent out yesterday (Thursday), cost taxpayers £1,400 – £860 for design and printing and £540 for postage.
The cards, with stars on the front saying good luck, include a message from council leader James Kempton, saying: “I wanted to wish you good luck for your exams. This is an important time for you and I’m certain that all the hard work you have put in will pay off with great results.”
It continues: “I’m sure you’ve been told this often but it remains good advice. Make sure all your exam equipment is ready to go, get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, but above all be confident and trust in your ability.”
Shadow education chief Cllr Richard Watts said: “Everyone wishes Islington kids good luck in their exams but this sounds like an expensive way of getting the council leader some publicity.”
But Cllr Kempton said: “I know how hard young people have been working and I wanted to offer a gesture of support from the council.”
