Campaigning mother’s tragic end at graveside

A WOMAN who campaigned outside Holloway prison for better treatment of prisoners was yesterday (Thursday) found dead by her daughter’s grave.
Pauline Campbell, 60, joined the campaign group Inquest after the death of 18-year-old Sarah who died of an overdose in a Cheshire prison five years ago.
Ms Campbell successfully sued the Prison Service under the Human Rights Act over her death.
Ms Campbell was arrested outside Holloway Prison in July (pictured) last year after staging a vigil for Marie Cox, 34, who died from self-inflicted injuries.
Ms Campbell said at the time: “There were no women police officers involved when there should have been – and the manner of the police action was completely unacceptable.”
Prison Reform Trust director Juliet Lyon said she was “so sad” to hear the news of Mrs Campbell’s death.
“Pauline Campbell campaigned bravely and tirelessly to save other families from having to endure the unbearable pain of losing a child through suicide in prison,” she said.
