Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 16 May 2008

Give us our own lettuce

• I DON'T know why stallholders in Chapel Market are selling lettuces from Spain when they are in season in Britain now. It was the same last winter.
You couldn’t buy English celery then because all that seemed to be available was from Spain.
I’ve no objection to us importing food from European countries which they can grow there but we can’t here, but when it comes to transporting loads of food across hundreds of miles when it is available from farms and suppliers in Britain it just doesn’t make sense.
