Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 16 May 2008

Tops for education

• LAST week the “topping out” ceremony took place at St Mary Magdalene Academy – our new Islington secondary school. Essentially, the occasion was to mark the building of the latest section of the school (a sports hall, multi-purpose hall and games area) reaching its highest point.
Work at the site is going well and the facilities that are and will be on offer to students and the community really are outstanding.
The school can be very proud of being able to provide first-class learning in state-of-the-art surroundings. Parents, the diocese and the council have worked hand in hand for years to make this school a reality and it’s fantastic to see their hard work come to fruition.
With investment from the government and Islington Council, major improvement works are taking place across all the borough’s secondary schools over the next few years. It’s a good time for education in Islington as young people have access to the first-class surroundings, resources and teaching they deserve.
