Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 9 May 2008

Roots lie in struggle

• I FEEL Peter Ackroyd should come clean and declare in your paper whether he is a man of cutting irony or merely a bombastic speaker (The Clerkenwell Chronicles, April 25).
I refer, of course, to his ridiculous suggestion that trade union organisers of the annual May Day march that leaves from Clerkenwell Green every year did not choose this meeting point because of its history of working class struggle. You also stated that Liberal Democrat councillor Meral Ece has been on Islington Council since 1996.
Meral Ece was one of the Hackney councillors responsible for closing down half of Hackney libraries in 1996.
