Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 9 May 2008

Join sports centre plea

• I WOULD like to express my thanks to all the residents and associates of Islington who have contributed towards the campaign for an Arsenal sports centre. The first stage of this campaign has revolved around an old-fashioned petition that has raised a lot of awareness in the borough about this issue and has brought some quite diverse sectors of the community together.
I feel that the petition has now run its course – for the time being – and that it is time to move on to a different stage in the campaign where we can continue to attract support and ideas at a higher and broader level.
We haven’t run out of signatures, as there are plenty of residents who have not yet had the chance to see this petition; but we have attracted support from a high enough proportion of the available cross-section of the population to demonstrate that this is a big issue that is worth taking further.
To mark the end of this petition, we will be assembling outside the Town Hall in Upper Street at 7pm on Tuesday, shortly before the annual council meeting. So please come along if you want to show your continued support for this campaign.
IAN SHACKLOCK
