Street of 24-hour booze

TWO off-licences just a shop apart in Newington Green have won 24-hour licences to sell alcohol.
Star News, at 61 Newington Green Road, and Muzzi’s off-licence, at 65 Newington Green Road, succeeded with applications to sell alcohol night and day, seven days a week, at a Town Hall hearing on Monday.
The applicant for both businesses is Red Red Wine (London). Objector Chris Lawson, who opposed the Star News’ application, said: “It is an unfortunate fact that having drunk people milling about outside premises late at night often leads to violence or intimidation.”
An objector to Muzzi’s application, who did not wish to be identified, asked: “Is 24-hour licensing really necessary in a society where we have social problems spiralling out of control?”
