MP’s hands-on trip to Congo war zone

MP Jeremy Corbyn played a hand-clapping game with children in war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo during a fact-finding Parliamentary mission.
It was one of the few light moments in a trip to investigate appalling conditions in the country.
During a visit last week to a project in Goma, North Kivu, supported by British ActionAid charity, the MPs were welcomed by hundreds of women and orphans, many of whom are living with HIV.
The Islington North Labour MP said: “We are here for two main reasons – to support any process that brings about peace in eastern Congo. And to make sure the rest of the world fulfils its obligations to ensure displaced people, with their children, are fed.”
