Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 May 2008

Scouts on parade

• LAST month two Islington scouts called Stephen were invited to Windsor, where they were received by the Chief Scout, Peter Duncan, and the Duke of Kent.
Stephen Stretton was invited because he had achieved his Queen’s Scout Award, quite possibly the toughest challenge you can take on in scouting. Stephen Darlow got to meet the Duke because last year he was presented with a gallantry award for scouting through ill health.
Both Stephens thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was a great opportunity to look back on their expeditions and trails against adversity, meet other exceptional scouts from around the UK and plan their next adventure.
As both act as volunteer leaders to younger scouts, they can look forward to the day when they will stand in the same parade and feel an even bigger sense of achievement at having helped them.
It would be great if next year we could have even more young people from Islington looking forward to this kind of achievement. All they have to do is join.
Sophie Bowman
Scout leader, Camden City and Islington District
