‘Killer giggled after fatal stabbing’
MOMENTS after a drug dealer was fatally stabbed, one of his killers was seen “giggling”, a jury heard yesterday (Thursday).
Former top athlete Jamal Dyce, 19, known as Loony, had blood on his hand and exclaimed “I got him”, the Old Bailey was told.
Dyce, 19, whose running career was wrecked when he was attacked by muggers and stabbed in the legs, is alleged to have been involved in the murder of Joseph “Tinker” Armstrong on the Newington Green estate.
Mr Armstrong, 40, had been living in a workers’ hut after his girlfriend threw him out of her flat in Congrieve House because of his heavy drinking.
The court heard that Mr Armstrong was suspected of stealing a teenage girl’s mobile phone. Her angry father and uncle demanded it be recovered and visited several flats trying to locate the phone.
Mr Armstrong was lured to a stairwell on the estate in September 2006. He was attacked by a group of knife-wielding men and fatally stabbed in the neck, stomach and back, said prosecutor Anthony Leonard, QC.
On trial are four residents of the estate, Curtis Henry-Seabourne, 22, of Hathersage Court, brothers Lyndell Christie, 26, and Donovan Christie, 24, also of Hathersage Court, and Dyce, a musician, of Congrieve House. All deny murder.
Witness Sean Hayes, who was too ill to attend court, said in a statement that he watched Mr Armstrong arrive on a mountain bike and go to the stairwell, where his four attackers were allegedly waiting in ambush. Mr Hayes said that when he looked into the stairwell he saw the victim “writhing” on the ground.
