Energy cut at fire station

HOLLOWAY fire station is to be one of the first buildings to be given a green makeover under a scheme piloted by Mayor of London Ken Livingstone.
The station will have to undergo a rigorous environmental assessment to decide how its carbon emissions can be cut by 25 per cent.
It has not yet been decided how much money Mr Livingstone will allocate for the work at the Hornsey Road fire station, one of only 42 public buildings to benefit from the scheme.
Mr Livingstone said: “Landmark buildings such as police and fire stations will be made less energy-guzzling, saving money and helping to save the planet.
“As nearly three-quarters of damaging carbon emissions come from energy used in buildings, improving energy efficiency is probably the single most important thing we can do to tackle climate change.”
