Parents of stabbing victim praise police
THE parents of a teenage stabbing victim have thanked Islington police for their “exceptional care” after three men were jailed for their part in the attack on their son. Michael O’Shea, 19, was stabbed just millimetres from his heart in Junction Road, Archway, in October 2006. He survived but needed months of treatment in hospital.
On Monday, at Inner London Crown Court, Joseph Barnett, 19, of Camden Road, Holloway, was given a five-year sentence after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and affray. He denied both charges. Michael Kennedy, 19, of Camden Town, was jailed for a year and Daniel Ewens, 19, of New North Road, off Essex Road, for nine months, both for affray.
In a letter to Islington Chief Inspector Bob Carr, Mr O’Shea’s parents praised the attention officers provided at the scene of the stabbing, the “reassurance and support” given to them at hospital, and the “courteous, professional and understanding“ approach of officers. They singled out investigating officer PC Neil Curran for particular praise.
Mr O’Shea was stabbed following an incident in Chico’s nightclub in Archway. He was taken to Whittington Hospital in Archway and later transferred to London Heart Hospital in Marylebone.
