Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 14 March 2008

Fine bus polluters

• We were totally dismayed to hear that Islington Council is not going to implement the fines on bus drivers as in Croydon (Cut bus pollution, March 7).
We have been writing to Transport for London for three years about this problem and at last it appeared there was to be a solution to the continuous noise of engines and the pollution of diesel fumes filling our garden and house. This has been so detrimental to our mental and physical health. We are so desperate to find a solution.
Whoever took this decision obviously does not live in a bus turn-around site or terminus. How would they like someone parked under their windows running the engine all the time? They would soon find a way to put a stop to it. Do we deserve any less?
We beg the council to reconsider this proposal, due to the environmental and health damage it is causing as well as the waste of valuable resources. Thank-you to all those who have been supportive in this matter.
