Praise as school just gets better

TEACHERS and pupils at a Finsbury Park school are celebrating one of its best ever Ofsted reports.
Inspectors described Islington Arts and Media School as “good and rapidly improving” with “some outstanding features”.
The Turle Road school was classed as “good” overall, with the care, guidance and support offered to pupils rated “outstanding”, as was the curriculum.
The school’s progress since its last inspection was largely due to the “inspirational leadership of the headteacher and his very able and committed senior team”.
The quality of teaching in general was praised, with performing arts, mathematics and information and communication technology noted as being subjects where pupils performed particularly well.
The report concluded that the overall atmosphere of the school was harmonious and that students felt happy and safe.
Headteacher Richard Ewen said: “We are delighted that this latest Ofsted report recognises the school’s improvements, achievements and determination to ensure security, continuity and creativity in the education we provide.
“We still need to focus on raising the literacy levels. But this is a real boost for teachers, students, governors and parents who have worked so hard over the last year.”
