Starved dog dies after rescue

STARVED and weak, a dog with bits of green plastic in its gut died in the arms of an animal welfare officer.
The mastiff became nothing more than a bag of bones when it was shut up for days in a car boot. The dog was forced to take nourishment from an old petrol can.
It was so thin and feeble that it died just minutes after an RSPCA officer arrived at an address in Drayton Park, Highbury.
RSPCA inspector Clare Ponsford was called to the house two weeks ago. She found the trembling animal with ribs sticking out as thin skin clung to its bones.
Ms Ponsford said: “This poor dog literally died in my arms. She weighed less than half the normal bodyweight for a dog of her size.
“It looks as though this dog was kept in the back of someone’s car and not fed so all she had to eat was a petrol can.”
