Designers’ battle over booze bid

TWO of Britain’s most famous shoe designers will launch an objection on Monday against plans for a new restaurant opposite their home to sell alcohol into the early hours.
Terry and Liz de Havilland believe that their quality of life will be ruined if Shandis in Upper Street gets the go-ahead
The couple, who live in a Grade II-listed building, will appeal against the application by the restaurant at a licensing committee meeting at 10am.
Mrs de Havilland said it was all part of an unsuccessful battle to stop the restaurant from being built in the first place.
She added: “We have been in Upper Street for more than 20 years and remember when the area was quiet and convivial.
“Where we live there is a courtyard surrounded by residents.
“Now we’ll get noise and smells from the restaurant and rowdy drinkers keeping us up.”
The owners are seeking permission to sell alcohol from 11am to 1am and until 3am Friday and Saturday.
