Ernestine Davies with husband Victor
‘A lovely lady, a caring person’

AFTER the inquest, Victor Davies said he felt his wife Ernestine had been overexerting herself before her death. The couple would go on skiing holidays together and enjoyed attending concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.
“People still now can’t get over it,” he said. “Apart from the last few months of her life she appeared to be confident and on top of everything.”
They met at a dancing club in Islington. “I was enchanted by her,” Mr Davies said. “She had already handed in her notice and was going back to Austria when we met. We were married within about six months.”
Describing her as the anchor of his life, Mr Davies added: “She was a far more disciplined person than I. Even on her death she left notes on how to defrost the fridge and what bags you need for the vacuum.”
Mrs Davies was a leading member of Loraine Mansions Tenants’ and Residents’ Association.
The chairman of the Federation of Islington Tenants Associations, Brian Potter, said: “She was a lovely lady, a very caring person, and did a lot for her community.
“As a member of Loraine Mansions Tenants’ Association she was extremely well thought of and a very nice lady. Her input was extremely valuable. She will be missed by her tenants’ association and the FITA organisation.”
