Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 February 2008

Why this silence?

• I WOULD like to see all our politicians in Islington come out and condemn the actions of registrar Lillian Ladele (To see real persecution look at gay rights battle, January 25).
Good to read Emily Thornberry, our Labour MP, speaking out, but I would like to see the Tories prove they have really changed and speak against this too. The Lib Dems have also been quiet so far.
Perhaps there is a conflict of interest for the Lib Dem councillors? I know Bridget Fox is a regular churchgoer, but other religious people have already condemned the registrar, so it is important for her to make her opinion clear.
T Broeke

• GOOD for you, Mrs Ladele! In her place I would do exactly the same. Principles are for life, not just for Christmas – and not to be left outside the workplace.
