Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 11 January 2008

Stadium blues

• WITH Arsenal’s latest application for a range of new entertainments and drinking licences, residents living close to the Emirates Stadium are faced with the prospect of yet more noise and disruption, more restrictions on their ability to move around easily, to use public transport or to have visitors, in Arsenal’s relentless drive to consolidate its position as the richest football club in the world.
Residents and our children have also lost our community sports centre (the former JVC Centre at Highbury Stadium) with the club’s move to its new home.
As tickets for the first two concerts have, rather prematurely, already been sold, I would suggest that Arsenal donates the profits of the concerts towards building a replacement for our much-needed and much-missed community sports centre. I am fairly confident that, as a campaigner for human rights and champion of the underdog, Bruce Springsteen would agree.
