Out-of-hours overhaul for GPs

GP surgeries are being invited to apply for funding in a bid to improve out-of-hours services in the borough.
Islington Primary Care Trust (PCT) will consider setting aside funds to practices so patients can see their doctor on weekends or in the evenings.
Helen Pettersen, director of services at Islington PCT said: “The PCT is keen that access to GP practices improves, and in response to the national survey results we would like to fund additional appointments for patients in the evening, early mornings and at weekends.
“We always want to hear from patients about what they think of health services in Islington so that we can continue to build on our strong foundations to make things even better for every local person.
“The next national patient survey will be sent out to patients early in 2008 and I want to encourage Islington residents to complete it so that we can continue to respond and adapt in line with what patients are telling us.”
