Mince pies all round and hot chocolate for William and Joan Hargrove

Plenty of flair in the square

A TRADITIONAL Christmas festival with live music and hot mince pies was held in award-winning Edward Square in King’s Cross.
The event was organised by the Friends of Edward Square, with Islington Council and Copenhagen School.
Two popular bands played music in the square. The Salvation Army Brass band played traditional carols and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment played a “Baroque medley of Christmas Crackers” on sackbutts, cornet and percussion.
The event was made possible by a grant from Islington Community Chest and with support by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment who are moving into nearby Kings Place on York Way in 2008.
Their first local appearance was in Edward Square in summer 2006 when a Tudor dance project was held with the two adjacent primary schools. Since then they have been active in the King’s Cross schools and in the local community.
Free hot chocolate, mince pies, and biscuits were provided by the Co-op in Caledonian Road and Tesco at King’s Cross.
