Nutcracker to benefit appeal

MAYOR Barbara Smith renewed her appeal for donations to Sadler’s Wells Connect – the charity that brings the arts to the community – at a party at New North School.
Councillor Smith, who admits leaping around to the Rolling Stones with her husband and consort Paul, said that the charity caters for everyone, whatever their age or physical disability.
She added: “We get baby groovers in the toddlers’ class rubbing shoulders with the theatre’s resident 60s performers, The Company of Elders.”
She said that one of the key features of the newly-built New North School in New North Road was that it had a dance studio requested by the pupils.
“The charity recognises that dance connects people and promotes confidence and physical wellbeing for all, including the disabled and those with special needs.”
A benefit performance of Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker is being held for the mayor’s charity on Sunday January 13 at LSO St Luke’s in Old Street.
