Victim hit by car as he flees mob

A FLEEING attacker ended up with a broken leg after he ran into the path of an oncoming car.
The man was trying to evade a mob of angry men as they chased him along Upper Street after he allegedly punched a pubgoer in a dispute over a woman.
Police said the row broke out outside the Walkabout pub in Upper Street at 2am on Sunday December 9.
The victim, a 26-year-old man, interrupted a conversation between a friend and another man inside the pub.
When he left the pub a second man accused him of harassing his friend.
The accuser then punched the victim and then ran off, pursued by a group of people.
A police spokeswoman said: “He was struck by a vehicle, resulting in serious injury outside the Steam Passage pub.
“He was taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries were not life-threatening but he did receive a broken leg, fractured cheek and broken thumb. He is still in hospital. No arrests have been made.”
