Pupils leap up tests league table

PUPILS and teachers at Vittoria Primary School are celebrating impressive results in government league table figures released last week.
Children at the school, in Half Moon Crescent, Angel, have beaten the national average score in key stage two tests in maths, with those achieving level four leaping up by 30 per cent to 82 per cent.
The figures, released by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, show Vittoria pupils’ level four results have improved by 23 per cent in science (to 72 per cent) and 13 per cent in English (to 73 per cent).
Headteacher Sue Hamer said: “We had a huge improvement and it’s down to staff working hard and targeting support to pupils at every level.”
Children and young persons chief Lib Dem councillor Ursula Woolley said the borough’s schools had improved massively over the past year.
“In just 12 months, we’ve shot a fifth of the way up the national league tables for key stage two results,” she said. “The government has told us we’re the second highest in the country in terms of the progress children make in our primary schools.”
