Rapist caught... 17 years on

A BOGUS minicab driver was yesterday (Thursday) found guilty of raping a woman searching for a taxi in Angel – a crime which remained unsolved for 17 years.
Jamshed Khan, 44, was convicted of the attack at Southwark Crown Court, following an investigation by the Met police cold case rape investigation team. He will be sentenced in January.
Met police said that, in April 1989, Khan, of Loughton, Essex, picked up the victim in Essex Road while posing as a minicab driver. He took the woman to Epping Forest, where he raped her. She escaped from the car and flagged down a passing vehicle containing two off-duty minicab drivers, who drove her to a police station.
In 2002 the Sapphire cold case investigation Team was created to investigate unsolved stranger rape allegations.
Khan was arrested and charged in April this year following an inquiry led by Detective Constable Andy Lawrence.
Speaking after the verdict, DC Lawrence said: “Today’s conviction should send out a warning to anyone who has committed a sexual offence that we do not cease to investigate these crimes.”
