Clarkson: ‘It’s absolutely idiotic’

TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has sparked a row by claiming the Town Hall should have been charged with “attempted murder” if it had introduced a blanket 20mph speed limit.
Speaking on the breakfast show This Morning, Mr Clarkson said the ban was “idiotic” and would result in deaths.
“The blanket ban they’re talking about in Islington is mad,” the Top Gear presenter told viewers on Friday. “I experimented the other day to try and drive below 20. You can’t do it without constantly staring at the speedometer. You just can’t see where you’re going until you hear this squashing noise when you run over children.”
He added: “Outside schools it’s a really good idea but any council that does this, I would charge them with attempted murder. It is absolutely idiotic.”
Town Hall Lib Dem deputy leader Terry Stacy said: “Not only is he being irresponsible, he is speaking total rubbish. We don’t have a blanket ban but the ones we have work.
“We are only introducing them where people want them. Where they have been introduced, in places like Highbury Corner, they have made the roads safer and statistics prove it.”
