Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 9 November 2007

Prudence punished

• I WAS disgusted to read of the government’s attempt to take money away from schools that have managed to underspend their budgets.
As a former school governor, I know that Islington schools need every penny they can get. Last year NHS trusts which balanced their books, including Islington Primary Care Trust, were raided to bail out overspending trusts elsewhere.
Gordon Brown preaches prudence, but punishes schools and the NHS when they are prudent.
Thankfully, the government has been forced to back down. It was an outrageous suggestion. Can either of Islington’s Labour MP’s defend it ?
On another subject altogether, I do praise the Tribune for its arts coverage. I enjoyed the Angelica Kaufmann article. One doesn’t expect such items in a local paper. Thank you.
