Blue badge parking cheat forks out £900

A MINICAB driver who used a disability permit to leave his car in a resident’s bay has been given Highbury magistrates’ biggest parking fine this year.
Mohibul Islam, of Avenell Road, Highbury, was fined £947, including costs, for improper use of a blue badge.
He had used the badge, which he claimed was given to him by a relative, so he could park his green Mercedes in a resident’s bay on his street in May this year.
Mr Islam, 26, who did not appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court when his case was heard last month, was issued with a penalty charge notice and the blue badge was confiscated.
Lib Dem environment chief Councillor Lucy Watt said: “There can be no good excuse for this kind of behaviour and it is absolutely right that hefty fines are issued to people who abuse special concessions reserved solely for those with disabilities.
“I hope that this serves as a deterrent to other people who are tempted to do the same.”
