Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 26 October 2007

Focus on staff plight

• I AM not an expert in these matters and only work for Hackney Council, but I do know that a union like Unison is neither middle class nor would it sell its members’ jobs down the river (What did union do? October 19).
Unison would have negotiated the best of a bad job lot.
Its members lead it nationally and locally and if there had been support for a strike then I am sure it would have had one.
My thinking is that the Kennas are more concerned with their Finsbury Forum than with the plight of the Care UK staff they speak about but know so very little of.
The Kennas should aim their bazookas where they belong: at Care UK and at Islington Council. I would suggest they should discuss at their Finsbury Forum putting questions to Gwen Ovshinsky at the next full council meeting and calling on her to resign as director of social services. Councillor John Gilbert should go too. Ignorance is no excuse for culpability.
