Are you ready for some variety?

FROM Can-can girls and a Houdini who occasionally has to be rescued when his stunts go wrong, to a juggler who can keep 40 hula-hoops going at the same time – all this and more can be seen at the Exmouth Centre theatre at Clerkenwell tonight (Friday), with the first of a special series of old time variety musical entertainments and burlesque.
Two freelance TV producers, Freddie Sorenson, 29, and James Gordon, 30, from Burgh Street, Islington, hope to put the variety on the arts map with a series of musical events at the centre.
They are launching Warped, the History of Variety Through the Ages, which will include music, song, comedy and “bawdy burlesque” and amazing stunts.
James said: “There is very little variety entertainment in London these days and we think that there is a new interest in this form. We’d like to make variety as mainstream as the comedy circuit is these days.”
Freddie said that the evening will include plenty of audience participation with people invited to play on-stage Victorian parlour games.
