Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 19 October 2007

Centre’s cash plight

• LIB Dem councillor Ursula Woolley claims she has no idea that the Elizabeth House youth centre is in need of funding (Shadow hangs over centre that’s ‘the one safe place’ for teenagers, October 12).
This just shows how out of touch the Lib Dems are. I have been shouting to the rafters that, because the council won’t put in the cash, the centre faces problems, but they won’t listen.
The truth is that I have advised council chiefs about it, including Councillor Lucy Watt. Councillor Andrew Cornwell, executive member for finance, was also informed about the lack of funding for the youth centre and, although he was approached several times, he did not even bother to come back to me with a response.
In spite of all this badgering, they haven’t lifted a finger to support the centre. Now Cllr Woolley is claiming ignorance.
The simple fact is that the Liberal Democrats who run the council are not on the side of hard-working families who rely on services like the youth centre. I hope Cllr Woolley won’t back down on her promise, but if people want a council that is really on their side they will have to vote for change in Islington.
