Students watch dancer Sangawara.
Limbo dancer’s breathtaking show

FIRE-breathing limbo dancer Sangawara wowed students at City and Islington College last week.
Acrobat Sangawara helped launch Black History Month with a display of traditional African dance, fire-eating and fire-blowing.
Samantha Mwamamshiku, 16, one of the event organisers, said: “It was a really good opener and got everyone together. People from every ethnic background have been involved in the activities and there has been a focus on unity.”
A programme of events, on the theme of respect, will look at achievements of figures such as reggae legend Bob Marley and TV star Oprah Winfrey. Other highlights include A Love Music: Hate Racism CD and an exhibition of African art and dress.
Students are encouraged to wear dresses that reflect their cultural background.
The Generating Genius project will give a talk on how its programme helps black and ethnic minority students achieve their ambition of becoming the doctors and scientists of the future. It will also be offering two students the chance to go on a science trip to Jamaica next summer.
