Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 12 October 2007

Iraq smear campaign

• I RECENTLY received a Lib Dem newspaper through my front door that tried to hide its political allegiance under the title Islington News. I have seen Lib Dem campaigns in other cities pretending to create “community newsletters” and it seems so dishonest.
However, what I found most appalling was the attempt to smear MP Emily Thornberry as a supporter of the invasion of Iraq.
Many readers will know that Robin Cook and Jeremy Corbyn came to speak in support of Emily at a high-profile public meeting before the 2005 general election.
And many readers will also know Emily took a strong stand against the £76 billion replacement of the Trident nuclear weapons system this year.
Rather than solely engaging in negative campaigning, why can’t Bridget Fox tell us her own views on these issues? I wait in hope...
