Club told to change DJs as police fear fatal shooting

POLICE have warned that a fatal shooting will occur at a Finsbury nightclub if its security is not tightened.
A number of violent incidents, including two reported shootings and a mass brawl, have followed all-night raves at Yeungs City Bar in City Road, police say.
Residents living nearby have bombarded the council with complaints, which will go before a licensing committee meeting on Monday.
One resident filmed a shooting when recording on video the disturbance she claims the club causes. She said: “I saw a male shooting at a car. I believe it is only a matter of time before someone is killed or seriously hurt when leaving these parties. We no longer feel safe in our own neighbourhood.”
Police have warned the club’s management to tighten security and to stop booking DJs who attract gang followings.
Police Sergeant Graham Henry said: “I am supported by fellow officers in my opinion that Mr Ngan [the manager] is not able to control his premises. It is my view that, should these premises continue to be run along similar lines, there is a strong likelihood of a serious if not fatal accident occurring.”
East London gangs the Peel Dem Crew, NorthStar and E9 Bang Bang follow DJs who have played at the club. It is believed the feuds are linked to a number of gang-related shootings in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, over the summer.
Residents say streets in the neighbourhood have been turned into late-night race tracks. “When the club finishes, people get into their cars, turn up their radios as loud as possible, and drive up and down the street at breakneck speeds, sometimes in reverse,” one said.
“We no longer look forward to the weekend because we know we will be kept awake until the early hours and that during the night someone might get shot or we might be hit with a stray bullet.”
Police have recommended a number of changes to the licence, which has been suspended until Monday’s meeting. They include the use of metal detectors, a ban on alcohol sales after 1am and the installation of CCTV.
The Tribune was unable to contact management at the club this week.
