Man dies after 10th-floor flat fall

Neighbours witness horrific death plunge after fire had swept through tower block home

A MAN died after he fell 120ft from a blaze in his 10th-floor flat.
Horrified onlookers watched father-of-two Marinos Kypri, 42, plunge to his death at 6.30am on Monday, as the fire brigade arrived at the block of flats at Talbot House, Holloway.
Halima Hissein, who had been evacuated from her flat on the 11th floor of the 19-storey block on Hornsey Road watched the drama unfold.
She said: “It was horrible.
“There were so many people watching when it happened. He literally landed on top of us. He nearly hit a pregnant woman. There was blood everywhere and everyone was screaming.”
Brave residents on the 10th floor tried to rescue Mr Kypri, but were thwarted by the the blaze, which started in his hall shortly before 6am. Firefighters were called to the scene at 6.10am and eventually put out the fire in the four-bedroom flat at 7.35am.
Mr Kypri, who is believed to be divorced, was fondly remembered in the pub he used to drink at, the Eagle in Seven Sisters Road.
Head barman Anthony Kennedy, 24, said: “He used to come into the pub pretty much every day and have a few pints. Everyone loved him here and he was always very talkative and jolly.
“He had two young kids he used to talk about. He was a mad Arsenal fan and you knew he’d be here giving it loud if they were playing.”
Dozens of floral tributes to Mr Kypri appeared on the high rise estate on Tuesday morning. One, from his son and daughter, was written on an Arsenal cap. It said: “We love you daddy forever and always from Zoe and Nic your Prince and Princess.”
The fire brigade are investigating the cause of the fire. An inquest into Mr Kypri’s death is due to open next week.
