Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 28 September 2007

Dumping on binmen

• COUNCILLOR Lucy Watt should listen to council employees and tax-paying residents (Bin workers under fire, September 21).
I was the first female road sweeper employed in Hillingdon. After eight hours of sweeping up after people who threw away glass, household goods and garden waste, instead of taking them to the council tips, I was exhausted. So why did I do it? I believe there is honour in graft.
Cllr Watt should try doing the binmen’s job for a week before complaining. These jobs can be dangerous, with broken glass, razor blades and dead creatures dumped in plastic bags.
