Cyclist critical after crash

A CYCLIST is in a critical condition after he was mowed down by a car that then failed to stop on the Holloway Road on Wednesday night.
The 54-year-old man’s bike tangled with a grey Saab after it hit two 16-year-olds as it tore around the corner of Tollington Way, shortly after 8pm.
The man, who is from Tottenham, was taken to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, and is suffering from fractured ribs and pelvis and a collapsed lung.
The 16-year-old girl and boy walked away from the scene nursing minor injuries.
Witnesses said the girl was catapulted into the air before the car crushed the cyclist and dragged him 20 metres down the road.
Horrified onlookers ran to the man’s aid.
Owner of the Nambucca pub Barry Burke said it was not the first time such an incident had happened at the corner: “Exactly the same thing happened here last year. The corner is a death trap.”
After closing the Holloway Road for more than three hours between Mercers Road and Tollington Way on the busy Champions League night, police recovered the burnt out Saab in Campdale Avenue, Holloway, shortly after 11pm.
A Holloway man has been remanded in custody for failing to stop after a collision.
