Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 14 September 2007

Children are victims

• JA Da Silva’s allegation that Arab Palestinian children are “groomed from the cradle to become ‘martyrs’/suicide bombers and to kill as many Israelis as possible” is outrageous.
Does he/she think that Palestinian parents are somehow sub-human? That they don’t love their children as much as, for example, the parents of 11-year-old Rhys Jones of Liverpool?
The truth is very different. According to Luisa Morgantini, the vice-president of the European Parliament, “since 2000 more than 800 Palestinian children have been killed by the Israeli Army”. And please don’t reply with that other unsubstantiated allegation: that Palestinian militants use children as human shields.
On the education of Palestinian children, Ja Da Silva says that the (mis)“education of Palestinian children is so well documented”. Would she/he please provide precise references to those documents, so we can check for ourselves?

• SAFETY and protection of Palestinian children are the responsibility of the Palestinians (A nation at war, August 31).
Any humane people would evacuate children, the sick and the elderly prior to carrying out terrorist attacks, knowing full well that Israeli reprisal attacks would follow.
There is no legal or moral basis for the continued attacks by the terrorists. Israel is rightfully entitled to attack their strongholds until their evil presence is annihilated.
Palestine has no armed forces but it is not defenceless.
It has two well-armed terrorist organisations Hamas and Al Fatah, supported by Iran, Iraq, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
